Embrace the Camera: September 29th

It's almost Friday, which means it is time to Embrace the Camera! Woot!

I recently took Haeden to a new park. Well, it's actually an old park. It was new to him though. Like our usual park, I used to go to this one as a kid, too. It's actually newer than the other one, but you'd never know considering the current state it's in. I was totally bummed.

It's not in the greatest area ever, but I don't think that should really matter. Unfortunately sometimes it does. A lot of the equipment was torn up and there was even quite a bit of graffiti. Someone had obviously tried to clean it up in the past, but apparently had just given up. I wonder what you can do in situations like these. Anyone ever been part of a park clean-up before?!

We didn't stay too long, but I grabbed a few shots before Haeden declared, "This park is dirty! Let's go!" Oh, and I should mention that he is now big enough to swing by himself! I can hardly believe how grown up he is. Every day, something new. I don't know whether to burst with pride or burst into tears!

Embrace the Camera: September 15

Embracing the camera again this week with the Anderson crew.

This week has been crazy busy both at work and at home. We haven't had a single night that we didn't have to stop along somewhere along the route home, and twice we've been out past our bedtimes. Mama likes her bedtime, you guys. And because I'm super smart, I decided to try a new workout routine and have been getting up at 5:30am to go running/walking. You guys know it's still dark outside at that time, right? I've keep my phone with me thanks to the trusty Couch to 5K app and bring along a flashlight, too. I keep to a block that is fairly well lit, but the flashlight makes me feel a little safer. Plus, I think I could totally use it as a weapon if I had to... not that I live in an unsafe neighborhood or anything. Actually, in all honesty, I'm not really afraid of people. I'm more freaked out about the things that don't really exist. Seen one too many scary movies/ episodes of True Blood. ha!

Anyhow, my little guy is really into movies right now. I'm still trying to keep them at a minimum, but we've been watching bits of the Cars movie several times this week. Movie watching in bed is sooooo much more fun than on the couch!

I <3 his neck squeezes!

Blurry, funny faces.

He wants to give you kisses...

Must h ave been a good part. He's looking a little pre-occupied.

Ahhhh!

So intent.

Are you done yet, Mom?!

Not yet, kiddo!

And because I'm a weirdo...

Now go on... embrace that camera (and loved one, too)!

Tots & Teens

Of all the advice I got when I was pregnant, or even while Haeden was just a wee babe, nobody ever told me that he would turn into a teenage hellion at the age of two.

Everybody knows about the "terrible two's", sure. But when I heard that I always envisioned tantrums - flailing arms, kicking legs, bodies being thrown to the floor in the most dramatic way possible. These were things I was prepared for - you know, the face slaps and kicks to the gut while trying to remove him from something dangerous, or even something he just plain can't have. I can handle those.

But the back talk? Nobody warned me about this part. How can a kid that only learned to talk 6 months ago have that down to a damn science? Lately, conversations with him go a little like this:

Me: Haeden, stop touching the TV.
Haeden: NO!
Me: Haeden, stop touching the TV and don't tell me no.
Haeden: No, Mommy! YOU stop!

And it wouldn't be all that bad if he'd actually stopped and then given me sass, but it's both. I know that being the battle ax all the time is the wrong approach, but it's so incredibly hard not to be at this time. Especially if we are out in public. I don't want to be the woman with the rowdy, obnoxious kid, but I also don't want to be confined to the house all the time either.

When we're at home I simply put him in time out and that is definitely helpful. But when we're out and about I am kind of at a loss. I try to distract him and I have even tried to bribe him a few times... "If you are a good boy, Mommy will let you have a cookie..." kind of thing. That sometimes works, but if he's already in a mood there seems to be no talking him down from the ledge, if you know what I mean.

The other day he was acting out in a restaurant. We tried everything we could think of to keep him happy, but he was being loud and telling us both "NO! Mommy/ Daddy bad!" and throwing things off the table. I finally told him that if he didn't stop then I was going to take him to the car for a spanking. And that's exactly what ended up happening. Of course, he can barely feel anything since he is still in diapers, but it definitely gets the message across to him. Afterwards, I asked if he knew why he got a spanking and he did. He told me what he was doing wrong and then I asked if he would be a good boy when we went back inside. And he told me no several times. Finally, after telling him that we wouldn't go back inside and eat until he agreed to be good, he said he would and he was for the most part. I mean, he's two, after all. Good is sort of a relative thing, right?

Haeden Loves

What does Haeden looooove right now?
- The park. The swings and the slides are great, but he says the bridge is his favorite.

- To run. To jump. And to throw balls. Hasn't quite gotten the hang of "catching" yet.

- Anything to do with water. Whether it be the sprinkler, the beach, the pool or even bath time!

- Basketball

- Bikes, mini four-wheelers, carousels (basically anything he can ride on. I cannot wait for the fair this year!)

- Coloring, play dough, watching for TRUCKS (and EX-cah-va-tohs) while riding in the car

 - He also has a slight obsession with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

He has turned into a little boy right before my eyes and I don't know when it happened?! The only time he is my "baby" anymore is when it's time to go to bed, he has a boo boo or his feelings are hurt. I guess I'll take whatever I can get because before long that will be gone, too.
