Par-tay Time!

So, Haeden has been two for over a week now and I'm just now getting to post pictures from his big day. What can I say? Life happens. I'd be a lot better with this whole bloggin' thang if I didn't have to work a full- time job, too (hint, hint hubs/lotto gods!).

Both Haeden and I were sick the latter half of the week leading up to his birthday. Figures, right? I swear that if there is a major holiday, birthday or vacation planned the boy is going to (at the very least) have a cold. Luckily we were able to get the (almost) bronchitis under control before party time. You're welcome, guests!

Whether I was sick or not, I was determined to DIY the majority of the food and decorations. Didn't even matter that the party was for family only and most of them were going to be completely oblivious to the (OMG time-consuming) work that went into the little details. It mattered to me. I, of course, wanted it to be perfect.

Okay, so nothing is ever perfect. Martha Stewart I am NOT. But, hey, a girl has got to start somewhere, right?!

The birthday sign, which was really super cute in person. I promise.

Fringed crepe paper hung over the windows. The garland was made with string and tissue paper. Both were super cute and, even better, super cheap! Oh, and that is a GIANT sandwich on the table!

I taped leftover cupcake toppers to the middle of these store-bought accordian hangy thingees.

More fringey crepe paper. They remind me of jelly fish!

The spread. Try to look past my hideous kitchen. It is a dungeon in there and the orange walls are sooo much cooler in person. Promise!

The sorta-kinda theme was vintage cars, so I hung a "fuel" sign over the food. The yellow pom-poms were left over from the valances I made for his room and I stole the photos from different places around the house.

Yum!

Also, yum!

Even yummier! Chocolate covered cookie dough balls!

Opening presents. He opened the guitar and drum set first and then he wasn't interested in anything else. Guess we should have saved those for last!

Jammin'.

Check him out! That leg lift kills me!

I was so afraid he was going to grab that candle, but I wanted to see if he would blow it out. Then I forgot and blew it out myself when I was trying to show him. Mom fail.

No time for pictures, Dad. There are cupcakes to devour!

Nom, nom, nom!

That face!

Rockin' out with the great grandparents (Oma & Opa)!

Jam session with Daddy!

As you can see, we all had a great time. So great that we totally forgot to take pictures of everyone with the birthday boy. Ooopsie!

Thirty Day Song Challege: Day 18

Day 18: A Song You Wish You Heard on the Radio

We have already established that I am not a huge fan of the radio. Between the constant commercials, obnoxious morning show hosts and overall craptastic Ke$ha music, I don't listen to a whole lot of it. And when I'm do I'm usually grumbling about it.

Anyhoo, to answer the question, if they played more things like Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" I would be more inclined to leave it on for more than a few minutes...

Thirty Day Song Challenge: Day 17

Day 17: A Song that You Dance to

Okay, so this is kind of a silly question to me. I pretty much dance to every song. I don't even have to like a song to dance to it. If I hear a beat somewhere it just kind of gets my foot tapping, head bopping and non-existent hips swaying!  I have no control over it! The music just, ahem, moves me!

Now, this is not to say that I'm a particularly good dancer. I mean, I am a white girl. But, I try and as long as you give me a drink or four, I will totally do it in public, too. I do, however, prefer the comfort of my own living room. Door shut. Curtains drawn.

Anyway, if I have to choose just one song I will go with what is currently on in the CD player at home. Katy Perry's "E.T." I honestly thought it was stupid the first time I heard it, but it eventually grew on me. And now I shake my booty and sing into my hairbrush every morning while I'm getting ready for (no, not junior high!) work!

Thirty(ish) Day Song Challenge: Day 16

Day 16: A Song that You Used to Like but Now Hate

This was pretty easy thanks to the radio. There are quite a handful of songs that I have enjoyed once upon a time but now loathe just because it has basically been played. to. death.  One of those songs is Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours".  And really, it goes beyond that for me. I can't stand him at all now.
Speaking of... anyone want a Jason Mraz C.D.?!

Haeden: Year One

I originally had the idea to do a countdown to Haeden's 2nd birthday by posting a photo from each month ofhis first two years. Wouldn't that have been fun?! Yeah? Well, too bad. I'm a busy woman, you know?

Just kidding. Go ahead and pick up that chiny chin chin and put on a happy face because I'm going to go ahead and do it now. For the hell of it, ya know? And also because I still haven't posted anything about his actual birthday. I'm slacking, I know, but this should totally make you love me again. Hold on to your ovaries, ladies...

Just out of the oven.

One month. Shutterfly's favorite. I see it all the time.

Two months. You can tell that he's waving his hands and kicking his feet with all his might. And to this very day, the kid does not sit still!

3 months. Luuuuurve this one.

4 months. Foood. Yummers!

5 months and drooling alll over the place!

6 month. Our little pumpkin!

7 months. Bathing beauty!

8 months. Quite the Christmas gift!

9 months. I want to squeeze him right NOW!

10 months. Okay, all of these pictures make me want to squeeze him. Is it just me?!

11 months. I think the tickle monster got to him!

 1 year and "So Big"!!

Thirty Day Song Challenge: Day 15

Day 15: A Song That Describes You

This one took some thought, you guys, but now I'm pretty excited about my answer. I'm warning you now, however, that it is corny. And sappy. But you know what? That's how I am when it comes to my baby. Especially since he's hardly a baby anymore.

I chose Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing". I don't think there's much explaining to do with this one.

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Where every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

Don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you baby and I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you the sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you baby and I don't want to miss a thing
Lying close to you feeling your heart beating
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming
Wondering if it's me you're seeing
Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we're together
I just wanna stay with you in this moment forever, forever and ever

I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you baby and I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you the sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you baby and I don't want to miss a thing

I don't wanna miss one smile, I don't wanna miss one kiss
I just wanna be with you, right here with you, just like this
I just want to hold you close, feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment for all the rest of time

Don't wanna close my eyes, don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you baby and I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you the sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you baby and I don't want to miss a thing

I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you baby and I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you the sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you baby and I don't want to miss a thing
I don't wanna close my eyes, I don't wanna fall asleep
Yeah, I don't wanna miss a thing

100th Post!

Well, I've recovered from the birthday party but am now buried in a mound of paperwork at my yob. I like yob better than job, don't you? It sounds more fun.

Anyway, this is my 100th post and since I'm not ready to share in the birthday details (I'm still in shock that my baby is 2!), I'm posting a short video of Haeden playing his new drum. Thanks, Auntie Robyn!

Thirty Day Song Challenge: Day 14

Day 14: A Song That No One Would Expect You to Love

Well, given that last admission, I bet you'd be surprised to learn that I really enjoy the song "Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson. Weird, right? I don't know why. There are a couple of lines that make me laugh and I guess it speaks to my inner (picked on) middle-schooler. It's actually on my iPod and I totally sing along to it when I go for a run.
He is scary though. Bleh.

Thirty Day Song Challenge: Day 13

Day 13: A Song That Is A Guilty Pleasure

Yeah, this is the easiest by far. I am about to make a confession here. Promise me you won't laugh, okay? Or judge. Because you're totally going to want to. Especially you, Crittle. We all know you're a total musical snob. Here it is:

I like Britney Spears.

There. I said it. I liked her (10 years ago, holy crap!) in high school and I like her now. I still prefer the older, pre-mental breakdown Britney but I like her just the same... bad extensions, auto-tuning and all. There's just something about her. What can I say? She makes me want to shake my booty, you guys. Especially, "Slave For You". It's just plain fun.

Thirty Day Song Challenge: Day 12

Day 12: A Song From A Band You Hate

This is too easy. There are a lot of bands that would obviously fit into this category. In fact, if I had my husband's CD case to browse I might even have a hard time choosing. But I don't. And my memory, as you know, sucks and I can't remember half of their names. What does come to mind, though, is the Barenaked Ladies. I don't have anything against the band, really. It's a funny name and that one guys has pretty eyes. What I can't stand is the lead singer's voice. It's like nails on a chalkboard. A really whiny chalkboard.

As for the song, I'd have to say "One Week" because even though I hate it, the damn thing is catchy. And therefore it will easily get stuck in my head. Like right now. Chickity china the chinese chicken... CRAP!

Pretty eyes...                               Stupid voice...
