Making A Difference

I came across this quote today and I just felt compared to share it. It's pretty self-explanatory as to why. I know each of us, at times, feels like we cannot make a difference on our own. How often does that little voice creep up inside your head telling you "Why bother? Nobody cares what you think. Your opinion doesn't matter, it's not going to change anything."

Well, guess what. It does matter and you can make a difference.

"While wandering a deserted beach at dawn, stagnant in my work, I saw a man in the distance bending and throwing as he walked the endless stretch toward me. As he came near, I could see that he was throwing starfish, abandoned on the sand by the tide, back into the sea. When he was close enough I asked him why he was working so hard at this strange task. He said that the sun would dry the starfish and they would die. I said to him that I thought he was foolish. there were thousands of starfish on miles and miles of beach. One man alone could never make a difference. He smiled as he picked up the next starfish. Hurling it far into the sea he said, "It makes a difference for this one."

Hot in Heeeeeer

Looks like spring has officially sprung over in these parts. We have had some beautiful weather over the past week. Or more. I can never really be sure anymore since the days seem to all run together. I have totally been griping about the cold weather all winter long and therefore I should be pretty much ecstatic over the recent change. And I am. Sort of.

I tried on a pair of shorts today. It didn't go well. Mama bear needs to lose her winter weight. Like, yesterday apparently since it's already 80 degrees outside. Unfortunately it seems like every time I actually get around to exercise, I turn around and stuff my face full of cookies. Damn you, girl scouts!

While I go get some more cookies, errrr, take a walk, check this video out. It will make your day. Or at least take your mind off of the muffin top spilling over your jeans. I mean, it's not just me, right?

Smooth Move

Yesterday our office suite got re-keyed. Since I sit closest to the door I have the distinct pleasure of being the official "gate-keeper" and holder of the keys. It's obvious that I'm really important, right? Kind of like this guy:

So, like I said, our suite got re-keyed and after I picked up the new set from Security (who, let's face it, take their job way too seriously), I thought it would be smart to make sure everything worked correctly. The key fit all of the locks just fine, but I did notice a wee little problem. There was no way to lock the door from the inside. I thought maybe I could open the door, lock it with the key and then close it behind me after walking back inside, but it didn't seem to work. Or so I thought...

I broke the news to my supervisor and we had a good laugh about it since we're only supposed to lock the door in an emergency situation. We figured someone was going to have to lock the doors and just make a run for it if an issue ever arose. I went back to my desk and not even five minutes later we all heard some loud knocking at the back door. It was two of our administrators, and thank God they had a great sense of humor about it because I was mortified. Apparently you can lock the door from the outside and then close it. Don't know how I missed it, but I sure am glad it wasn't the CEO of our company that figured it out. That probably would not have gone over well!

What's the Dealio?!

Who likes free stuff?! I do! I do! Well, my bloggie friends, Shutterfly is offering 50 free holiday cards for bloggers who post about their favorite cards from the fab holiday collection. Woo hoo!

This only furthers my current love-affair with Shutterfly. The Hubby and I used their services recently to create a few, uhhh, gifts that I cannot tell you very much about because I don't want to give anything away to any family members that might be reading this! Lets just say the final product is wonderful and I can't wait for Christmas because the grandparents (and great-grandparents) are going to do back flips! Our order didn't just look great, it came fast and cheap (coupons, coupons, coupons!), too. Does it get any better than that?

Usually, no. But this time, yes! Last week a representative from Shutterfly contacted us and asked if we would consider allowing them to purchase (through a generous store credit) some of the images we posted on their site. I'm not quite sure if they chose them because Haeden is the cutest kid ever, or if the Hubby's photography skills are just that good. I'm going to go with both. Either way, we were pretty excited with the notion that Haeden's very adorable mug will be gracing the website in a matter of months. Promise to update you with that information when we have it!

Now, on to the Christmas card favorites. I chose the first one because, being the undercover hippy that I am, I love anything and everything with the word "peace".

This next one I love because it has a bird on it. I'm currently obsessed with all things birds and owls. I also love the color scheme since it's similar to the decor we have going on in the house right now.

Those are great, yes, but I think this just may be our winner! It has a freakin' palm tree ( Hi, we live in Florida!) and a bird!

Now that that's settled, we need a picture.  Oh, Huuuuubbyyyy...
